SFFE is a viritual centre owned by NTNU, SINTEF and IFE. Through the owners the centre is connected to hundreds of researchers working on renewable energy. The management of the centre is the basis for contact with the different departments.

The Centre was established in 2004, and was intended to enhance the cooperation between SINTEF and NTNU within renewables. In 2005 IFE became an equivalent partner in the Centre.

The daily conduct of the centre is carried out by a coordinator, in close cooperation with the management. The main office of the centre is situated in Trondheim, on the NTNU campus at Gløshaugen.
